You would have thought that a turnaround that saw your team rise to the top of the league with a huge win on the final day of the season and remain unbeaten after 18 games would be enough football for some people.
Not Jordan Blake, the manager of Woodley United’s men’s first team.
That’s because the Kestrels coach has been supporting the club’s women’s team in recent weeks by taking over managerial duties following the departure of Iestyn Llewellyn after a short spell in charge.
Blake’s only game in charge was a 1–1 draw against Badshot Lea, the team’s first point of the Southern Region Women’s League Premier Division season, with the goal scored by Megan Giles.
Blake said: “The club’s board asked me a few weeks ago after the manager left if I could help, which I was only too happy to do.”
Writing on social media after the draw, he added: “I’m delighted to be able to support Woodley Women as interim manager on Sunday afternoon with a positive point in the right direction after a difficult start to the season. I always want to help and support the football club where I can, in any way I can.”
After three games in seven days for his league leaders, Blake is now firmly back in Combined Counties League Division One action.
The Kestrels dismantled Hillingdon Borough 4-1 at Rivermoor nine days ago before Football in Berkshire. This was followed by a 3-2 win at Sandhurst Town on Monday night and a 5-2 win at Langley on Friday.
Woodley’s men’s team are back in action at home to Hillingdon in the Division One Cup on Tuesday night (7.45pm), while the women’s team host Beaconsfield Town at Bulmershe Pavilion on November 9, when it is announced a new coach will take charge.
